Executive functions are the most fragile of all cognitive functions. They are affected in a wide range of neurological, psychiatric, neurodevelopmental, and neurogeriatric disorders. In this webinar we will examine how executive functions are affected in various dementias (including Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body dementia, and Frontotemporal dementia); traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular disease, neuropsychiatric disorders (including schizophrenia and affective disorders), infectious encephalopathies, seizure disorders, and other clinical conditions.
Dr. Goldberg is a cognitive neuroscientist, a practicing neuropsychologist, and an educator who lectures worldwide. He is a Diplomate of The American Board of Professional Psychology in Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Goldberg authored research papers on cortical organization, hemispheric specialization, frontal lobes, memory, traumatic brain injury, dementias, schizophrenia, and other topics. His books The Executive Brain (2001), The Wisdom Paradox (2005), and The New Executive Brain (2009) have been translated into 16 languages. He coauthored The Sharp Brains Guide to Cognitive Fitness (2013) and is the Chief Scientific Adviser of www.sharpbrains.com. Dr. Goldberg is a recipient of The Copernicus Prize for “contributions to interdisciplinary dialogue between neurosciences and neuropsychology,” and The Tempos Hominis medal “for international medical sciences education.” He is a foreign member of The Venetian Institute of Science, Literature and Arts. Elkhonon Goldberg was a close associate of Alexander Luria.

Dr. Madigan's research seeks to isolate the central determinants of child and youth development. She is primarily focused on understanding how social stressors and adversities can influence child socio-emotional development. She is also interested in understanding why some mothers, children, and youth show resilience to these stressors and adversities while others remain vulnerable. Her research uses a variety of methods (e.g., observational assessments, survey data, structured interviews) and capitalizes on multiple statistical methods as a function of the question under consideration (e.g., meta-analyses, mediation and moderation, trajectory analyses, multilevel models, path analyses, and individual participant data reviews).
Dr. Madigan holds a Canada Research Chair in Determinants of Child Development. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary, a member of the Owerko Centre at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute and an Associate Member of the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research and Education.
